Our Missions Program

AMCAN Canada’s medical missions program sends teams of volunteer Coptic healthcare professionals to serve underserved communities — both within Canada and internationally. We join the wider CMANA North America network on coordinated mission trips, while also pursuing opportunities specific to Canada’s membership. Every trip is planned with care and executed with clinical excellence, anchored in the conviction that caring for the sick is one of the most sacred things a person can do.

What We Do on the Ground

Clinical Care, Free of Charge

On each trip, our volunteer teams set up clinics — often in churches, community centres, or field settings — and provide free medical services to patients who would otherwise go without care. Services vary by team composition but typically include primary care consultations, surgical procedures, dental care, pharmaceutical dispensing, and specialty care where available.

Every mission includes a spiritual dimension — morning prayers, fellowship, and the understanding that what we are doing is not merely medical work, but ministry.

Volunteer Team Composition

Who Goes on a Mission Trip

Physicians & Specialists

General practitioners, internists, cardiologists, OB/GYNs, pediatricians, and other specialists provide consultations and manage complex cases. The specialty mix varies by trip destination and community need.

Surgeons & OR Teams

AMCAN/CMANA has brought surgical teams on mission trips to perform operations that local facilities lack the expertise or resources to carry out. Surgeons work alongside local medical staff and anesthesiologists.

Dentists

Dental care is among the most requested and impactful services on every trip. Dentists provide extractions, fillings, and basic oral health assessments to patients who have never seen a dentist before.

Nurses & Allied Health

Registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physiotherapists, optometrists, and other allied health professionals play a critical role in patient triage, treatment, and follow-up care throughout every mission.

Pharmacists

Pharmacists manage the dispensing of medications — often donated through CMANA’s partnerships — ensuring patients receive the right treatments and counselling on proper use, especially for chronic conditions.

Medical Students

Medical students participate in a supervised, observational and support capacity — an experience many describe as among the most formative of their training. Student membership in CMANA Canada is free.

Where we Serve

Mission Destinations

CMANA Canada currently organizes mission trips to Cameroon and Haiti, with Gabon coming soon. Beyond these Canada-organized trips, CMANA Canada members are also welcome to join any mission trip run by CMANA USA — giving our members access to the full breadth of the CMANA North America network.

CMANA Canada — Organized Trips

Trips organized and led by AMCAN

New destinations are added regularly as the CMANA network grows.

Cameroon

2024 – 2025 • Central Africa

AMCAN Canada’s flagship mission destination. Our teams serve underserved communities in Cameroon in collaboration with the Coptic Mission Church on the ground — bringing free clinical care including primary care, surgical services, dental care, and pharmaceutical support to patients with little or no access to healthcare.

Haiti

2017 – 2019 • Caribbean

One of the most medically underserved countries in the Western Hemisphere. CMANA Canada teams provide free clinical services to communities with extremely limited access to care — including primary consultations, surgical care, dental services, and medications.

Gabon (Coming Soon)

2026 • Central Africa

CMANA Canada is expanding to Gabon — a new destination currently in preparation. We are establishing partnerships with local churches and health organizations on the ground. Stay connected for updates and registration details as this trip takes shape.

Côte d’Ivoire (Coming Soon)

2026 • West Africa

An exploratory mission to Abidjan is scheduled for the final week of September 2026. This high-level delegation, composed of six specialized physicians, aims to establish a sustainable framework for medical cooperation in Côte d’Ivoire. This initiative is being coordinated in close partnership with the Ivorian Minister of Health, with the active diplomatic support of the Canadian, American, and Egyptian Embassies to ensure a successful and impactful first mission.

AMCAN Canada Members Can Also Join Any CMANA USA Trip

As part of the wider CMANA North America network, AMCAN Canada members are welcome to register for and join any mission trip organized by CMANA USA. This gives our members access to a much larger calendar of trips and a broader range of destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas — serving alongside Coptic healthcare professionals from across the continent.
