Common Questions

Medical Mission FAQ

Do I need prior mission experience to join?

Not at all. Many of our volunteers are joining their first mission trip. We provide thorough preparation and you’ll be part of a well-organized, experienced team. First-timers are warmly welcome — the most important thing you bring is a willing heart.

Can medical students or residents participate?

Yes. Medical students and residents can participate in a supervised, observational and support capacity — assisting with triage, patient intake, pharmacy support, and clinical documentation. Student membership in AMCAN Canada is free. Contact us to discuss what’s right for your stage of training.

How much does it cost to go on a medical mission?

Mission costs vary depending on the destination and duration of the trip. Volunteers are typically responsible for their international airfare, while mission fees help cover accommodations, in-country transportation, medical supplies, and operational costs associated with the mission. Additional personal expenses may vary by mission location.

Does my Canadian license allow me to practice internationally?

Regulations vary by country and destination. AMCAN/CMANA works closely with host-country partners and local health authorities to ensure all volunteers operate within the appropriate legal and regulatory framework for each trip. Full guidance is provided during pre-trip orientation.

How often are mission trips organized?

The wider CMANA network organizes multiple trips per year to various destinations. AMCAN Canada members are invited to join any CMANA trip. Follow our socials or contact us to be notified when new trips open for registration.
